As part of writing, we read a poem called 'The Colours' by Mary O' Neil We then discussed the poem. It asks, "what kinds of stories can colours tell us and what colours have to say about themselves." We looked at what personification meant. In small groups, the children were given a question to discuss, give reasons and provide examples to. |
They then shared their ideas with another group.
The following day we revised what personification was and the children
had to match a colour with a word or phrase.
had to match a colour with a word or phrase.
The children's matching.
The children then thought of their favourite colour and gave a reason using the word because. If they could, they personified that colour too. We then discussed two models before we wrote our own.
Blue I am blue. I am the colour of the sky. When you go over me i'll cry. I am blue paint. When you use me I will giggle and laugh. By Noah Red I am red. I make the sunrise shine happily. Red blood bursts onto the ground when I get hurt. I am anger. I am fire. I am lava. By Alex Silver I am silver. I am not spotted that often. I am a very shiny colour. I always smile. I am always your friend. I'm a very happy colour. By Tyler | Brown I am brown. I'm the trees grabbing things. I'm dirt. I'm earth. I've got skin. I can talk through vibrations. By Charlie Green I am green. I am green grass growing. Children run on me outside. Raindrops cover me like a carpet. When you pick me I get scared. Worms and insects can crawl on me. By Nate Blue I am blue. I am beautiful. I am the colour of the sea. I am bright. When you look up at the blue sky - that's me! By Isla |
